The short version
- We use every tool ourselves before we score it.
- Every tool is rated 0–10 on the same 4 criteria: ease of use, integrations, functionality, and pricing.
- The overall score is the plain average of those 4 ratings. No hidden weighting.
- Rankings on TechPilot.ai are sorted by that score. Nobody can pay to change a score or a position.
- Some links are affiliate links, and we say so. They never affect the score.
- Every review shows when it was published or last updated.
Hands-on testing
We don't score tools from press releases or feature lists. Our reviewers sign up, use the tool on real tasks, and note where it saves time and where it gets in the way. Testing takes place across our own work and our network of partner companies, so every score rests on first-hand experience.
Each review then records what we found: the four ratings, pros and cons, pricing at the time of testing, and, where useful, screenshots and answers to the questions people most often ask about the tool.
The four criteria
Every tool is rated from 0 to 10 on the same four criteria, so scores are comparable from one tool to the next.
| Criterion | What the rating reflects |
|---|---|
| Ease of use | How quickly a new user gets value: setup, interface, and learning curve. |
| Integrations | How well the tool connects to the apps and workflows people already use. |
| Functionality | The depth and quality of the features, and the quality of what the tool produces. |
| Pricing | Value for money: plans, limits, free tiers or trials, and how clearly pricing is presented. |
How the score is calculated
The overall score is the average of the four ratings, rounded to one decimal place. There is no extra weighting and no editorial bonus. We checked all 248 published scores against their four ratings, and every one matches this formula.
Here is a real example, Zoviz AI Logo Maker, currently our highest-rated tool:
| Ease of Use | 9.8 / 10 |
| Integrations | 9.3 / 10 |
| Functionality | 9.4 / 10 |
| Pricing | 9.7 / 10 |
| Overall | (9.8 + 9.3 + 9.4 + 9.7) ÷ 4 = 9.6 |
|---|
What our scores look like
A score is only useful if it separates good tools from great ones. Here is how the 248 scored tools are spread today. The median is 8.6, so a score above that puts a tool in the top half of everything we have reviewed.
| Overall score | Tools | Share |
|---|---|---|
| 9.0 – 10 | 50 | 20% |
| 8.0 – 8.9 | 165 | 67% |
| 7.0 – 7.9 | 33 | 13% |
| Below 7.0 | 0 | 0% |
Beyond our own testing
One team's experience can miss things. Beyond our own testing, we analyze what other users report on review platforms such as Trustpilot and G2. This helps us catch problems that only show up over months of use, such as billing issues, reliability, or support quality. Our score stays our own; outside reviews inform what we look for and what we warn you about.
Keeping reviews current
AI tools change fast. We monitor the tools we cover for changes to features and pricing and revise reviews when something material changes. Every review shows when it was published or last updated, so you can judge how current it is. Prices are quoted as of the time of review, and we recommend confirming them on the vendor's site before you buy.
Money and independence
TechPilot.ai is free to read. We earn money when readers buy through some of our links (affiliate links), at no extra cost to them. That relationship is disclosed on the site, and it has no effect on a tool's rating: the score comes from the rubric above, and rankings are sorted by score.
Vendors have no say in what we write or how we score their tools. See our editorial policy for how we separate editorial decisions from advertising.
What a score can't tell you
- A score is a snapshot. It reflects the tool on the date shown on the review.
- The best overall tool isn't always the best for you. Read the pros, cons, and pricing against your own needs.
- Scores compare tools on the same rubric, but they are still expert judgement, not lab measurements.
Corrections and questions
If a review is out of date or wrong, tell us at hello@techpilot.ai with the page link and what changed. We correct errors promptly and transparently. Vendors can use the same address to flag factual errors, such as a price change, but can't request a different score.
